Kyadondo-Unity and a shared sense of purpose marked a high-level meeting of NRM Women’s League leaders at the Kyadondo Secretariat, where representatives from across the Buganda region convened to strengthen strategies for grassroots empowerment and socio-economic transformation.
The meeting was chaired by Adrine Kobusingye, with support from Julie Nasuna. Discussions centered on mobilization, unity, and practical solutions to improve the livelihoods of women at all levels. Leaders from districts and sub-counties actively participated, demonstrating a collective commitment to advancing the Women’s League agenda.
While addressing the gathering, Kobusingye stressed the importance of unity among women, urging leaders to sustain the same spirit demonstrated during the recent elections under the “All Women for Museveni” slogan. She encouraged leaders to strengthen grassroots engagement by reaching women in sub-counties, parishes, and villages, ensuring inclusive participation in government programs.
A major highlight of the meeting was the upcoming nationwide SACCO initiative aimed at promoting financial independence among women. Kobusingye urged leaders to sensitize communities on how to access and benefit from the program. She also revealed that Janet Museveni has accepted to serve as Patron of the Women’s League SACCO, a move expected to boost credibility and attract wider support. The SACCO is envisioned as a foundation for establishing a national women-focused financial institution in the future.
She further announced the SACCO’s official name as the MAAMA Uganda Women Empowerment Initiative Cooperative Society, noting that it will operate nationwide, with each district establishing its own branch under the main structure.
Kobusingye commended women for their continued dedication and contribution to the growth of the League, highlighting that its visibility and impact have significantly improved across the country in recent years. She added that the slogan “Small Things Must Change” is already taking effect, as more women embrace empowerment opportunities.
Kobusingye also conveyed appreciation from Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who thanked Ugandan women for their overwhelming support in the January 2026 elections and pledged to meet them to further discuss empowerment initiatives.
The meeting concluded with appreciation to Hon. Nasuna Juliet Kalule for organizing the engagement, which leaders described as timely and vital for strengthening coordination from the national level to grassroots communities.
