Momentum continues to build behind Hon. Juma Witonze Kiseka’s bid for election to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), with sources within Parliament indicating that a significant number of legislators have already thrown their weight behind his candidature.
Speaking during his campaign engagements, Witonze presented himself as a candidate uniquely positioned to advance Uganda’s interests at the regional level, emphasizing his diplomatic credentials, leadership experience, and commitment to making East African integration meaningful to ordinary citizens.
“In the East African region, we are sending diplomats, not politicians. We need representatives who can effectively advocate for Uganda and strengthen regional cooperation,” Witonze said.
The aspiring EALA legislator highlighted his extensive experience in leadership and public service, noting that his track record speaks for itself.
“I have the qualifications, the vigor, and the experience to represent our country. My credibility speaks for itself, and I am confident that I will make Uganda proud when elected,” he stated.
A central pillar of Witonze’s campaign is ensuring that the benefits of East African Community integration are felt by ordinary citizens rather than remaining a discussion among policymakers and elites.
According to him, farmers, traders, and families across Uganda want to understand how regional integration directly impacts their daily lives.
“My mother, my auntie, my uncle in Masaka want to know how they will benefit from integration. They want to know whether they can sell their maize, coffee, and cotton in Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda. They want to move freely across the region without unnecessary barriers,” Witonze explained.
He pledged to become a strong voice for ordinary Ugandans at the regional parliament, advocating policies that create opportunities for farmers, business people, and young entrepreneurs.
“I believe I will bring integration straight to the common man on the ground,” he added.
Witonze also appealed to Members of Parliament to support his bid when voting takes place, expressing confidence that his vision resonates with many legislators.
Meanwhile, sources familiar with the ongoing consultations in Parliament suggest that Witonze enjoys overwhelming support among lawmakers. Estimates indicate that as many as 80 percent of Members of Parliament are firmly behind his candidacy.
“The mood within Parliament is clear. Many MPs have already made up their minds and are prepared to vote for Hon. Juma Witonze,” a parliamentary source told Lumpe Media.
Another source described the race as increasingly tilting in Witonze’s favor, adding that some legislators are already anticipating celebrations after the vote.
“When history asks what they did in this contest, many MPs are ready to say they voted for Hon. Juma Witonze,” the source said.
As the race for Uganda’s EALA slots intensifies, Witonze’s supporters remain optimistic that his message of regional integration, economic opportunity, and effective representation will secure him victory when Parliament casts its votes.
