A Senior Four student at New Life Secondary School in Luwero Town Council has died after allegedly being assaulted by a teacher, prompting a police investigation and a manhunt for the suspected perpetrator.
The deceased, identified as Nicholas Nakibinge, 16, reportedly sustained severe injuries during an incident that occurred on Tuesday evening at the school. He was rushed for treatment but died before reaching Luwero Hospital, according to police.
Authorities say another student who was allegedly subjected to the same assault survived and is currently receiving medical care.
Police have identified the prime suspect as Abraham Mukalazi, a Physics teacher at the school. Investigators say he disappeared shortly after the incident and remains at large.
Savannah Regional Police spokesperson Sam Twiineamazima confirmed the incident, revealing that two other teachers have been taken into custody to assist with ongoing investigations while efforts to locate the suspect intensify.
“We are actively searching for the suspect, and inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing,” Twiineamazima said.
Detectives are now gathering statements from witnesses and school officials to establish what transpired and determine the events that led to the student’s death.
The body of Nakibinge has been transferred to Mulago Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
The incident has sent shockwaves through Luwero District, with parents, education stakeholders, and community leaders calling for a thorough investigation and accountability for those found responsible.
