At the national celebrations marking International Women’s Day on March 8, 2026, at Kololo Independence Grounds, outstanding Ugandan women leaders were honored for their commitment to empowering women and strengthening leadership across the country. Representing the President, Jessica Alupo presented medals to several influential women whose work has made a significant impact in their communities.
Among those recognized was Adrine Kobusingye, the Chairperson of the NRM Women’s League. She received a prestigious Gold Medal on behalf of Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in recognition of her dedicated leadership and tireless advocacy for women’s empowerment across Uganda.
Hon. Kobusingye has played a key role in mobilizing women and strengthening their voice in national development. Through her leadership within the NRM Women’s League, she has championed initiatives aimed at improving the economic, social, and political participation of women. Her efforts have inspired many women to take up leadership roles and actively contribute to the country’s progress.
One of the initiatives she has strongly promoted is the “All Women for Museveni” campaign, which has mobilized women across the country to rally support for President Museveni ahead of the 2026 elections. The campaign has helped create strong networks of women leaders who are advocating for continued development and stability in Uganda.
In addition to political mobilization, Hon. Kobusingye has prioritized economic empowerment for women. Working closely with Janet Museveni, she spearheaded the creation of Women’s League Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs). These SACCOs are designed to improve financial inclusion by giving women access to affordable credit, savings opportunities, and financial support to grow their businesses.
Through these initiatives, many women have been able to expand their agricultural activities, start small businesses, and improve their household incomes. The SACCO program continues to provide a practical pathway for women to achieve economic independence and stability.
Hon. Kobusingye has also been instrumental in organizing major events that bring women together for unity and national reflection. In September 2025, she helped mobilize women for a national prayer gathering held at Hotel Lavena, where women from different regions joined in prayers for peace, unity, and national development.
Earlier, on January 8, 2025, the NRM Women’s League successfully organized its first National Women’s Rally, which attracted women from across Uganda. The event strengthened solidarity among women and encouraged them to work together toward shared goals.
Her recognition during the International Women’s Day celebrations highlights her continued commitment to uplifting women and promoting their active participation in Uganda’s social, economic, and political transformation. Through her leadership, many Ugandan women are finding new opportunities, building stronger communities, and shaping the future of the nation.
