Kampala — Thousands of supporters flocked to Kololo Ceremonial Grounds on Friday for a lively celebration dubbed “Yoga Yoga Jajja,” an event organised to mark the re-election of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in the January 2026 general elections.

The gathering drew people from different parts of the country and blended prayer, music, testimonies and speeches from government leaders, religious figures and community representatives. It served both as a thanksgiving event and a moment to reflect on Uganda’s development priorities as the country begins a new political term.

According to the Electoral Commission, Museveni won the election with 7,946,772 votes, representing 71.65 percent of the ballots cast, securing another term in office.

Museveni emphasises wealth creation

Addressing the crowd alongside the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataaha Museveni, the President thanked Ugandans for their continued support and called on citizens to prioritise wealth creation at the household level.

Museveni noted that celebrations should go hand in hand with efforts to improve livelihoods, urging people to engage in productive economic activities.

“You have heard of our sister Aminah Mukalazi. She is celebrating the political victory, but she is also reminding everybody to work and create wealth in their homes,” Museveni said, referring to Aminah Mukalazi, Head of the State House Local Content Unit and organiser of the event.

The President reiterated that Uganda’s economic transformation depends largely on the productivity of its citizens. He encouraged Ugandans to participate in sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, services and information and communication technology as pathways to improving incomes and creating jobs.

Museveni also pointed to the persistence of poverty in some communities, noting that economic hardships often drive young people to urban centres in search of work.

He said initiatives such as the Parish Development Model are intended to help households join the money economy by providing financial support for small-scale production and business activities.

Citizens urged to monitor public funds

The President further called on communities to actively monitor government programmes to ensure resources reach intended beneficiaries.

He urged local residents to form committees that can track the distribution and utilisation of funds under the Parish Development Model, saying transparency and community participation are vital for the programme’s success.

“Elect committees and follow up on the Parish Development Model money so that you know who has received it and how it is being used,” he said.

Museveni also warned against corruption within public institutions, stressing that misuse of government resources and the sale of public jobs undermine national progress.

“Do not tolerate corruption… many government workers are honest, but the few corrupt ones must be exposed,” he told the gathering.

Leaders hail election victory

Vice President Jessica Alupo congratulated the President on his re-election and thanked Ugandans for maintaining peace and stability during the electoral process. She also praised the First Lady for her continued contribution to the education sector and national development programmes.

Other leaders present described Museveni’s victory as a reflection of public confidence in the government’s policies and development agenda.

Among the high-profile attendees were Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, cabinet ministers, Members of Parliament and local government officials.

Prayers for unity and prosperity

Religious leaders also played a central role during the event. Pastor Robert Kayanja led prayers for unity and wisdom for the country’s leadership as Uganda continues to pursue regional integration and economic growth.

“We pray that the Lord will grant the leaders wisdom as they work towards East African cooperation, a common market and eventual federation,” he said.

Additional prayers focused on food security, economic stability and the well-being of Ugandan families.

Celebration and reflection

Throughout the day, supporters filled the Kololo grounds waving flags, singing and sharing testimonies of gratitude and political support. Cultural performances and musical entertainment added to the festive atmosphere.

Organisers said the “Yoga Yoga Jajja” celebration was intended not only to commemorate the President’s electoral victory but also to inspire citizens to actively participate in building the country’s economy and strengthening national unity as Uganda enters a new political chapter.
