The Senior Special Envoy to the President in charge of Buganda Affairs, Joseph Ssewava, has issued a strong message to newly appointed ministers and government officials from the Buganda region, urging them to prioritize service delivery and avoid complacency in office.
Speaking shortly after the latest cabinet appointments announced by Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Ssewava congratulated the leaders entrusted with new responsibilities but warned that public office should never be treated as a ceremonial reward.
According to Ssewava, ministerial appointments are performance-based mandates meant to improve the lives of ordinary Ugandans through effective leadership, unity, accountability, and development-oriented service.
He emphasized that leaders will ultimately be judged by the results they produce for the people, citing several biblical teachings to reinforce his message on responsibility and servant leadership.
Referring to President Museveni’s “Term of No Sleep” slogan, Ssewava explained that the phrase symbolizes the need for leaders to actively fight corruption, negligence, inefficiency, and poor service delivery across government institutions.
“The ‘No Sleep’ message is not about physical sleep, but about remaining vigilant against the many challenges affecting wananchi,” Ssewava noted.
Several leaders from the Buganda region secured prominent positions in the recent cabinet reshuffle. Among them is Minsa Kabanda, who retained her role overseeing Kampala and Metropolitan Affairs. Shartsi Kutesa Musherure, the Mawogola North MP, was appointed State Minister for Microfinance, while Justine Nameere was named State Minister for Local Government.
Other notable appointments include Katumba Wamala, who was moved to the Ministry of Public Service, Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka, and Sam Mayanja, among others.
Ssewava concluded by calling upon all appointed leaders to justify the trust placed in them by the President and the citizens through hard work, transparency, and measurable impact.
