Kampala, Uganda — Uganda’s growing footprint in global science and technology has taken center stage as Jonard Asiimwe participates in the prestigious Space Technology Conference Week in Hong Kong.

Asiimwe, who serves as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Western Region Vice Chairperson, is representing both Uganda and the broader African continent at the high-level gathering of global experts, policymakers, and innovators in space science.

During the conference, Asiimwe is engaging in strategic discussions on space exploration and astronomy, with a strong emphasis on translating scientific knowledge into practical applications. Key focus areas include Earth observation technologies, climate resilience strategies, advanced communication systems, and broader scientific development.

His participation underscores a shifting narrative about Africa’s role in global innovation. Rather than trailing behind, leaders like Asiimwe are positioning the continent as an active contributor to cutting-edge technological advancement.

“The message is clear,” a conference brief noted. “Africa is not catching up — Africa is contributing, innovating, and shaping the future of global technology.”

The event brings together stakeholders from government, academia, and private industry to explore how space-based technologies can address real-world challenges, particularly in developing regions. For Uganda, representation at such forums signals growing ambition to leverage science and innovation for national and regional development.

As global attention increasingly turns toward sustainable solutions and technological collaboration, Uganda’s presence in Hong Kong highlights the country’s commitment to being part of that future.
