Uganda’s ambitions to transition from a consumer economy to a production-driven industrial hub are gaining momentum, with Kiira Motors Corporation emerging as a flagship symbol of this transformation.
The state-backed automotive company has positioned itself at the forefront of locally driven innovation, designing and manufacturing electric buses and other mobility solutions tailored to African conditions. This development marks a significant milestone in Uganda’s journey toward technological self-reliance and sustainable industrial growth.
Kiira Motors’ progress reflects a broader national commitment to science, technology, and innovation as key drivers of economic development. By investing in homegrown engineering capacity, the initiative is not only reducing reliance on imported technologies but also fostering a new generation of Ugandan engineers and innovators.

Speaking on the development, Eng. Jonard Asiimwe, National Vice Chairperson for the NRM Western Region, described Kiira Motors as evidence that Uganda is capable of building and engineering solutions for its own future.
“Uganda is no longer just importing innovation. We are designing, assembling, and manufacturing it ourselves for Africa and the world,” he said.
